How to Play

Each hand starts with a deal and a Charleston — three passes right, across, and left, then an optional second Charleston and a courtesy pass. After that, play moves counter-clockwise: draw a tile, then discard one.

You may claim a discard to complete an exposure (pung, kong, quint, or sextet) or to declare Mahjong. Jokers can stand in for tiles in groups of three or more, never for singles or pairs.

Suggested Hands

The suggested hands panel ranks the hands you are closest to completing, factoring in your rack, your exposures, and tiles already visible on the table. Pin a hand to keep it in the strip above your rack while you play.

Bot Practice

Solo games seat you with three practice bots that follow the same rules engine as human players — they call tiles, swap for jokers, and defend their discards. Use solo play to rehearse a hand before taking it to a table with friends.

Rule Matrix

Rose Mahjong enforces standard American Mahjong play: 152-tile wall, Charleston joker restrictions, sandwiching jokers in exposures, claim priority by seat order, dead hands on a false Mahjong, and wall games that pay nothing and rotate the dealer.

Card Compatibility

Hand groupings in the app are described functionally so you can practice alongside the printed card you own. For live or tournament play, always refer to your official printed card.
